it's spelled 'Jon Abbey', it's right there in my user name. I get that English isn't your first language, but there's no reason to repeatedly spell my name wrong when it's right there.

thanks for that interview snippet, hadn't seen that before.

is it just me or does anyone else find it strange that Manafon is available for pre-order from amazon.co.uk (only the single disc version by the way), when Samadhi has been silent again for nearly three weeks after their last update. you would think they would prefer sales through the label... They said more info + new site 'soon'. Whatever...
Sorry but I'm just so excited about this release, and my preference will always be to order from the label or artist, but if that gets too complicated, well what can I do...

It's not strange at all. Samadhisound are always crap at updating their site. I'll buy it wherever I can get my hands on it quickly. Samadhi aren't particulary quick at getting orders out so I'll be buying it from Amazon probably. Perhaps the limited edition will only be available directly from Samadhi initially?

I'll be getting mine from Samadhisound, mostly to ensure I get the deluxe edition, partly to ensure my cash goes to where I want it to go.

I'll be ordering mine from Samadhi also - I think it's Robert Fripp's business, the shop part - if you look at the receipts and stuff, I'm sure it said the company RF has. Makes sense, business-wise to me. And I've always found them to be good - when they finally get the product to be distributed.

I think Manafon will have less of a shocking impact than Blemish as people will know more what to expect this time around - when I got Blemish and put it on I was like 'What the???'....this time around, I've grown to appreciate it and his other more abstract songs like 'The World Is Everything' (LOVE that!), so it will be less of a shock to the system.

By the way - does anyone know why TWIE and the other one on the sampler were recorded? Specifically for the sampler or as an intended part of an album? I think the sampler is brilliant actually - it works really well as an album; not much has been said about it so I add my tuppences worth on it here....

The music to 'The World Is Everything' was written and recorded by Takuma Watanabe and I think that Sylvian opted to write lyrics and record his vocals when they began rehearsing for the 2007 tour. So it seems that it was recorded with no definitive release in mind. The sampler seemed to be the most appropriate place for it's inclusion.
In the case of 'Sleepwalkers' (or, as you put it, "the other one"), Polwechsel's Martin Brandlmayr created the backing track with additional electronics from Sachiko Matsubara and Toshimaru Nakamura (both are contributors to Manafon). Sylvian then received the track and wrote lyrics, a melody line and also added a subtle keyboard part. Since the participants involved were musicians working within the electro-acoustic improvisation movement, I had incorrectly assumed that 'Sleepwalkers' would be indicative of what to expect on Manafon - or even could be included on that release. Yet now it's obvious that this song was created with no intent to release it elsewhere. Since it stood alone by itself, I suppose the sampler was the best spot for it. The song has remained on the Samadhi Sound Myspace site for nearly 2 years now and I think that may be so because Sylvian and the people at Samadhi want listeners to be aware that this song exists and have some way to hear it if they weren't capable of obtaining a copy. In my opinion, 'Sleepwalkers' is an incredible piece which deserved so much better than a limited release on the sampler.

just FYI, while this is actually her name, her professional name is "Sachiko M", which is what she's gone by for 10+ years now.

Thanks Baht. Agreed re: Sleepwalkers - excellent track and you can almost feel the disdain of the lyrics coming through in the vocal there. Tend to agree with the sentiment as well; 'sleep on, you ahem sleepwalkers'; working in the realm of the performing arts all my life, it's true - it's like Morgan Freeman said in '7' - "most people want to eat cheeseburgers and play the lottery", rather than challenge themselves or experience some level of cultural interaction, hitherto unknown to them. 'Go to the theatre to watch something challenging or different? Jesus no. Let's go and watch Cats...'.

No prob, camphorvan.
I forgot to comment on your other point in your post:

I agree that we won't experience that 'shock to the system' which was delivered with blemish's release. Yet I can't help but think that Manafon is still going to be a polarizing cd. The discussions should really become interesting. Also, I don't happen to believe that every fan will know exactly what to expect and they may tend to be the most vocal in their response.
I've read remarks on other spots on the net that lead me to conclude that some are expecting music along the lines of Secrets or the Nine Horses project. They make remarks in hope that it won't be similar to blemish. I think they will get the 'shock to the system' once again.

'Sleepwalkers' is an incredible piece

Totally agree...a wonderful piece of music. I hope the album is in this vein. To me a more "composed" Blemish sound...
