Davids worst songs

From Brilliant Trees through Died In The Wool...

Postby Melaszka on Sat Jun 21, 2008 3:16 pm

What a strange thing taste is - Heartbeat and Cover Me With Flowers are amongst my all-time favourites.

My votes for worst:

Backwaters (ruins an otherwise beautiful album, IMO)
I Surrender (or "Tonight, Matthew, I'm going to be Lionel Richie")
Godman
God's Monkey

I love Heartbeat too. But I've still not been able to pin down a 'worst' song - partly because I'd have to sit through Ingrid whispering her way through them - *runs*

I wouldn't say it's a 'worst song' but Endgame kind of shocked me when I first heard it. It's a great song, but it really sounded like a country song to me!

I think Endgame is one of the best songs he has written both lyrically and musically.

...and melodically as well. I agree that it is one of his best, and I happen to believe that it is the strongest vocal performance I have ever heard from Sylvian. The entire track comes across so natural and unforced.
Endgame is closer to that of a folk song rather than a country tune, but it's common that both styles cross at similar intersections from time to time, so I can completely understand SilverMoon's first impression.

I agree aswell...
I never liked the Sylvian/Fripp album, not as much as I would have liked to do at least.
but this song saved the project, saved these years...
