I'm hopeful that he finds a way to bridge a gap between the two styles. I think the 9h record was close. While there are individual tracks that I have enjoyed immensely over the past 10 yrs, I long for his more structured songwriting skills to be put back into use. Being one that likes to experiment and travel to new territories, this type of music would truly be a departure for him at this point. Funny, I remember reading a book I have about Bill Nelson that contains a quote from Sylvian being somewhat critical of Bill putting out album after album of what are essentially first take demo tracks. He suggested that working with other like-minded musicians and taking the time to make artistic choices would perhaps have led to better overall work. I tend to agree. While I do enjoy the improv/experimental work, I think Sylvian has too much song writing talent to leave dormant forever.
