RIP Japan (there´s no way they could reform now, is there?)

Well, someone had to say it....

Our favourite band Japan is over.

Mick Karn is dead.

All we can hope for is for the Batt brothers to keep on playing together live, and maybe bring in Rich from time to time...

There´s the records left, though...

And maybe someday David might sing some more oldies...

Steve, Rich, David, you must carry on! Life goes on... so take some days off and sleep a bit... and then be back.

We want you more than ever.

No. They didn't have to say it.

The boys ended their group efforts for the last time 1991. A Japan re-union would never have been on the cards and David is never going to sing any oldies.

Even if there is no chance of David doing any oldies.

You can't help but dream.

I am always quietly vindicated by DS' next artistic move, cuz it's always totally unexpected, the death of Mick Karn will invariably affect future projects even subconsciously and being of a fan of David's darker, depressive output a lot more so than Japan songs like 'Certain Slant..." is really stirring stuff, I really can't wait to hear what he does soon.

Yeah, RTC was the shit, it sounded like someone so old trapped in a youthful prison-shell - Mick Karn departing from us would make Japan material impossible but RTC songs could feasibly work with someone of above-average knowledge of the bass guitar.

I don't think DS could even bounce and shriek as he used to, thirty years ago, but it would have been interesting and they all would have stood to make more money than they ever did before had it gone through. (Japan)

I agree with Opiate. I also must say the timing, and undertone of this thread is highly inappropriate.

Have you ever seen those depressing PBS shows when they drag bands from the 50's and 60's out and get them to perform their "hits"? It is usually filmed before a live audience of former fans; all wrinkled and saggy and clapping on the wrong beat... Now picture Japan in such a situation trying to recreate 'Quiet Life' or 'Life in Tokyo' then on comes ABC with Martin Fry all bloated, squeezed into a lame gold suit followed by A Flock of Seagull Sh*t... Thank God they quit so we can be spared that atrocity. I prefer my memories of Mick and David as they were.

This is a pointless thread. Japan would never have reformed whether Mick had survived or not.

Let us keep Japan the band in the past where they belong. The creative output of each member has been an interesting path to follow over the years and Micks has been tragically cut short.

Let us give him the respect he deserves.

It would be good if there is was a tribute concert sometime in the future featuring Sylvian, Jansen and Barbieri playing Japan tunes with the proceeds going to Mick's family and cancer Charity's. However any discussions on this subject should be put to bed for at least a year. If anything people should be focusing on the great loss to music and their thoughts and prayers should be with Mick's family at this time.

No it wouldn't be good, it'd be vulgar!

Can we just concentrate on whats important here, the loss of a life.

A forum thread with tributes would be befitting, with stories of any meetings, gigs and how he made a mark somewhere in each of us. Celebrating Micks life and who he was is more important than some notion of a nostalgic fantrip to hopelessly recreate a time and place from 30 years ago. Can we please put this to bed now.

I'm astonished that people STILL hold out for a Japan reunion. It ain't going to happen nor is a tribute concert featuring the remaining band members. Pigs will fly before Sylvian sings "Visions of China" ever again.

I find this post utterly distasteful and disrespectful.
It actually stuns me!
Highly inappropriate and naive in its origin.

As for you ScottR, i have defended you in the past but your reply was pathetic, immature, extremely insensitive and an insult to the memory of MK.

'Fuck me' people just leave it at that and no more silly responses to this discussion please.

I agree with the majority--This thread is absolutely inappropriate.

Let's instead celebrate Mick Karn's life and legacy in this time. Instead of pining over something that never would have been, let's remember all of the great things he has shared with the world. Music, Art, his book, and so much more. Let's also keep his family in our thoughts and prayers at this time, and to remember that we can continue to donate to, and support his loved ones.

I am going to lock this thread. I originally had hoped it would go ignored, but I can definitely see why it didn't.

Rest In Peace, Mick Karn
