David's Birthday

Postby Astronaut on Tue Jan 15, 2008 8:31 am

OK, this might be a dumb question, but I'm gonna ask it anyway: Does anybody know if there is anything planned to acknowledge the fact that David will be celebrating his 50th Birthday on 23rd Feb? I mean, it's quite a milestone in anyone's life, right?

Astronaut, what are you suggesting that we all get together and buy him a cake? :D

Hey Bern! What a GREAT IDEA! Why didn't I think of it before? I could bake a huge cake, then hide inside it and jump out at the appropriate moment singing Happy Birthday or - something ...

Seriously, I was actually thinking along the lines of a CD/DVD/book release - anything ... I guess DS will just let it pass by quietly <sigh> :(

I guess you're right Sylvie, I often forget that not everyone is as eager to celebrate their birthday as I am! As for turning 30 this year - congratulations! Just think, DS has made albums that are the same age as you - and they're still amazing and fantastic!!!!

PS> I'm gonna be 39 later this year and I still intend to party like it's 1981!!!!!

I'm also 39 (although will turn 40 a few weeks after David turns 50). I think this must be a Sylvian fan demographic.

Same here, but 40 is still a few months away. Are you having as much trouble wrapping your head around the number "2008" as I am?

Ha, ha, yes, but less so since reading this Morrissey quote this morning: "Age is an irrelevance. Your age should no more influence your life than your shoe size."

Elvis only made it to 42 ! oh no !

Yes, but look at Chuck Berry.

Since this summer 41 and it only gets better (well, not always the fysical part, ahum)
Having kids makes you want to celebrate (they do it for you anyway, so share the joy). But deep inside I would like a small party, sitting in the corner or just running around pooring the drinks. All that age-thinking I did the day before made no difference. Still counting...
I remember reading somewhere David said about life and death
"There is only life". This is what I always believed anyway, but the way he said that, made me realize again, try living happy and appreciate it (also on your birthday)...

Hey! Looks like I'm in very good company here! :D

Melazska, that Morrissey quote is superb! I totally agree. I actually have to stop and think about how old I am sometimes if anyone asks! I honestly don't bother about it. Whats the point?

I dont always celebrate my birthday as, like most people, circumstances dont always allow it, but when they do I like to acknowledge the fact that I've survived another 12 months on this crazy planet with my sanity still intact. Well, most of it  !!!

I think if you are NOT living on a diet of banana pudding, fried okra, jello, and barbiturates, you should make it a wee bit past Elvis' untimely benchmark.
