Hi

From Radio Today website. http://radiotoday.co.uk/news.php?extend.4965

Mr Sylvian to take up the decks at 6 Music for a series for one off specials!

BBC 6 Music has signed a line-up of celebrated DJs for its new look 6 Mix slot on Saturday nights (9.00-11.00pm). The 6 Pack includes 2ManyDJs, Orbital, Andrew Weatherall and Erol Alkan.

Paul Hartnoll from Orbital said: "We're really excited to get this chance to play our favourite music on the 6 Mix and it's a great opportunity to play the tunes that made us what we are and will shape our sound in the future."

Paul Rodgers, Editor, 6 Music says: "We're hugely privileged that so many talented and influential DJs are taking over the decks to provide the 6 Music listeners with an eclectic mix of dance music to soundtrack their Saturday nights
or Wednesday mornings if they're listening again online!"

The slot will also showcase the talents of others in a sprinkling of specials across the year.

DJs already lined up are Detroit techno legend Derrick May, Mark Jones of Wall of Sound and former Japan front man David Sylvian.

Excellent news, my man! I have long thought David has the kind of voice that would add such gravitas to a documentary or some such project. I would also love a cd of pure spoken/ treated word poetry by him.

The air date mustn't have been set yet. The current schedule is:

* 18 July: 2 Many DJs
* 25 July: Derrick May
* 1 August: Andrew Weatherall
* 8 August: Orbital
* 15 August: Orbital
* 22 August: Wall of Sound's Mark Jones (featuring Human League's Phil Oakey)
* 29 August: Wall of Sound's Mark Jones.

It may possibly be aired to coincide with the release of the new album.

On a separate note, Elbow's Guy Garvey will be playing "Darkest Dreaming" as part of his weekly "Finest Hour" show. He plays Sylvian tracks fairly often. (Not as often as he plays Tom Waits though ;) )

Heard about this on Facebook. Seems a very interesting series that I doubt I'd get to hear any of. Maybe someone could be so kind as to possibly record some? :-D

I got no arguement with Orbital's set list. If Sylvian makes his half as good it will be worth two hours of your time. "riot in lagos" "metal" "let the music play" Sweet.

They are on the BBC iplayer for seven days after broadcast - only in the UK though (unless you have some IP forwarding malarkey sorted out.

I'm listening to the Orbital (Pt1) now. It's not really a mix for the first section - they are playing the tracks and describing what they meant to them. One of them loved Japan, the other didn't, but liked the Quiet Life track.
