Samadhisound in partnership with EMI

Postby banyan on Tue Jul 28, 2009 6:57 pm

Hi

Don't know if this has been mentioned before but Samadhisound has
struck a partnership deal with EMI Label Services.

Link: http://www.emigroup.com/Press/2009/press83.htm

Sweet Billy Pilgrims 'Twice Born Men' will be the first beneficiary of the newly-formed
partnership between Samadhisound and EMI Label Services wherein external labels are
able to benefit from EMI's wealth of sales, distribution and promotional support.

EMI follows the original release of Twice Born Men earlier this year by Samadhisound
with a full-blown release on August 3rd.

My first thought was that it seems like a move in the wrong direction for the label.

My second thought is that Samadhi may need the structure to be more responsive in getting orders out in a timely manner, and hopefully this will include a bit of web support, and perhaps updates and such on the site will also be a bit more timely. I hope? Great news for SBP, anyway.

No, this is a very good thing as it ensures good distribution for the label, especially to the few record shops we still have. The SBP album will be in demand due to the Mercury Music Prize nomiation, with prominent display in HMV shops for example. Independent record stores will also be displaying it in a special section for Mercury nominated CDs (this has already started).

The timing is also perfect for David's new album etc.

Some people have complained in the past about the lack of availability of SamadhiSound releases - how the official site is sometimes slow etc - this should help that problem.

I'm sure I commented on this about a week ago - maybe it was another forum.

I think it's a good move. It'll definitely help wih the SBP campaign. Samadhisound just aren't set up to service a wide rane of outlets. The Mercury prize will undoubtably see greater sales for Tim & co (although at reduced prices, buy 'em while they're cheap) and Sylvian should benefit if his releases are easier to see / get ahold of.

Can I ask you why you thought it could be a move in the wrong direction?

I guess I should have been a little more forceful on my second thought, which followed my first, as I am totally agreeing that it is a good move. As long as Samadhi maintains its autonomy, which it looks like it will.

First thought had to do with said autonomy and independence, etc., that's all. It was just a gut reaction, "Oh sh*t, they have to sell out to a corporate monster, already!"
