I think SBS is possibly Sylvian's finest work since Gone To Earth. While I realise that this work is a collaborative effort featuring 3 highly talented musicians, I think because of Sylvian's overall presence, vocally and lyrically, its difficult to view it as anything other than a Sylvian solo album. Just my opinion mind. Why do I love it? I just think its a beautifully crafted record, it features some wonderful songs and it's just a very contemporary sounding work. Highlights for me are the opening Wonderful World, Atom & Cell and The Librabrian but this changes from week to week.
Many people have commented on sylvian's return to a more traditional songwriting style and view this album as a backward step for Sylvian following his more experimental and challenging Blemish release. I disagree. If anything it has proved that Sylvian is one of our most creative and individual songwriters working today.
Sorry if this is gushing, I just love the man!
