Albums that everyone else hated but you liked...

For me...

Tin Machine (1st album from David Bowie's band); thought it was BRILLIANT at the time. Still do; well some of it. Loved the immediacy of it.

St. Anger - Metallica; the last album, critically panned and most fans seem to hate it. Coming to Metallica relatively recently, I listened to this with an open mind which perhaps some already existing fans were not quite able to do as it was a fairly radical move away from the formula. No guitar solos, seemingly little songwriting discipline, appalling snare sound, some of the weirdest guitar sounds I've ever heard, sheer, unadulterated anger...and I love it! Some tracks are a bit wearing though I think.

Trespass - Genesis; not hated I think, but doesn't get the recognition it deserves I think. Some tracks are stunningly beautiful.

Cool Pro-girl! I think it's really expansive and far reaching as an album. You'll be saying you like Marillion next! Now there's a band that the critics hated, but some of their stuff was brilliant; that 'Marillion are just trying to be like Genesis' never stuck with me; they were completely different. The only similarity to me was some similar synth sounds and the fact that some songs were longer and had tempo/timing changes. Oh and the costume thing. Kind of lost track after Fish left though. I thought Steve Hogarth was great, but it wasn't the same for me. NO doubt I lost out but hey ho; I had just discovered Milli Vanili!

Both TM albums were great, I even bought (and listened to) Live Oy Vey baby

I also like all of what ABC did.

hhhmmm I'm sure there are albums out there that i like which noone else seems to but i can't think of any now.... weird huh?

The Smashing Pumkins - Adore
Suede - Head Music - I know it has some weak tracks, but the good ones are REALLY good, and the ballads are between the best they've done.
The Beach Boys - Smiley Smile -probably biggest dissapointment in music history, but I still find some of the songs stunningly beautiful and funny.

and probably there are a lot more that I just can't recall at this moment.

Not sure I'm much of a pro at anything, but OK! And you say that about M like it's a bad thing!! For many years they were my top fave band - they are still in the top 10 for sure tho. Knocked down by a series of duff releases and spectacular releases by Echolyn/Porcupine Tree. Marillion were the band I blame for chaning my life and converting me to a prog-grl. LOL Still love them and am planning/hoping to get the MarillionWeekend in Montreal.

Love Fish and the whole Fish era - but eventually learned to love the Hogarth era just as much. The man has an amazing voice and can throw a bit of passion/angst in himself. Which is always what I've loved about them.

Ah...thought I must have read that wrong....and now it all begins to fit in place...prog...girl. Ahhhh.

Yeah - as a teenager I had just got into them (my brother's record collection which I used to raid). I think it was Genesis who were in the charts at the time (Invisble Touch album); from there I investigated the back catalogue. My brother then suggested I might like Marillion too. And I did. A lot!
Best album for you of the Fish era, Proggirl? For me; Clutching At Straws. I would say Mispaced childhood, but I have listened to it too much over the years(!). I am also liking Rush (pretty much just 2112) and some Alan Parsons Project too, (Tales of Mystery and Imagination - WHAT an album!).

Even more melancholic than their usual work, very depressing, but also very beautiful. No classic rock riffs in this album...
