As you can see from numerous threads throughout this forum, Laughing Stock is one of my fave all-time albums as well. To be fair, however, at the time of it's release, it was not well understood and there were many folks that did not like it. Critics generally panned it at the time. It has only been in retrospect that LS and Spirit of Eden have gained the respect they so truly deserved. Like many artistic masterpieces or even a fine-wine, it often takes time to appreciate something that isn't instantly gratifying and that takes time to get to know.Poisoned_Apathy wrote:Tin Bird wrote:Talk Talk - Laughing Stock
People hate this album?? I think it's Beauty at its purest state, really.
Boy, it takes guts to like Metal Machine Music! I admire the hell out of it and appreciate the artistic statement, but it's a tough listen to be sure. A precursor to many of the experimental noise bands such as Aube, Merzbow...etc. Too harsh for me, but cool nonetheless.Chet wrote:Lou Reed Metal Machine Music
