"Moonshout" by Transglobal Underground. I discovered this album a couple of days ago and am totally hooked. It's like the auditory version of crack!

I be listening to "Bump your A$$" off by Princess Superstar and
"Approach to Danger" by NWA

I'm curious do any of the rest of you listen to rap and hip-hop as well?

It's just that invariably I'm used to people writing it all off and I wondered if I could locate a few fellow fans...

Sorry. I wouldn't say I'd "written it all off" - I don't look down on it or take the "rap is spelt with a silent c" attitude. Far too many of my musical heroes value rap and hip-hop for me to disrespect it. But (like, I suspect, many people over 35) I've never been exposed to enough of it to be able to understand it, and thus feel a little bit intimidated by it. This goes for most genres that didn't enter the mainstream until after about 1985 - I'm not even sure what many of the terms mean. I'd like to learn more about some of these genres, but don't want to embarrass myself by being an old person trying to be trendy.

Having said that, some of the artists I like use rap etc in their work mixed with other styles. And it slightly worries me that I don't know enough about the genre to be able to tell whether it's good rap, or whether THEY'RE just being old people embarrassingly trying to be trendy!

Hi Tallulahtaurus :smt006 I have to say that my opinions are very similar to Melaszkas' especially:
I'd like to learn more about some of these genres, but don't want to embarrass myself by being an old person trying to be trendy
I do find some rap to be quite abrasive and misogynistic, and so (rightly or wrongly) I "tune it out" whenever I hear it, and probably miss out on some seriously good music because of it ... :?

Currently listening to Duran Duran - Electric Barbarella. "Ultra- chrome, latex and steel ..." Hmmmmm, did I just say something about being misogynistic?

I love Electric Barbarella! The video is really funny too!! (Plus, is it just me, or does Nick Rhodes - wearing the light grey suit - look like a little boy playing hookie from school??)

Currently listening to ... the neighbours tuning their car up!! Not a pleasant Saturday afternoon ....

I really love the way Nick looks in that video! He is sooo sexy *oh my Lord - did I actually say that out loud?*  And yeah, I adore the start of the video when Simon, Nick and Warren go to the shop and choose their "girlie". Nick could dress me up in polyester anytime he wanted ... Ha-ha-ha

I do like some rap actually. However my most recent CD purchases have been making up for the 'holes' in my Japan-related collection after what I call my 'wilderness years', most of the 1990s. This means that maybe I don't explore as much current music as I would like to. If only we didn't have to go to work, eh?!
