List your top 5 favourite David solo songs and why?

Postby godisinthesilences on Tue May 30, 2006 7:59 pm

My favourite songs are (not in any order):

1) Silver Moon- i love the romance of this song
2) Ride- I am completely hypnotized by this song every ounce of it hits home
3) Some kind of Fool- again a beautiful song with emotion and connection that is completely human
4) Nostalgia - because I live in this world of past and future...
5) A fire in the forest - the entire meaning of this song is so hopeful and full of love... a brightness enters like an angel

xtra but not really "solo" - Forbidden Colours (live version with Ryuichi Sakamoto)- the emotion in his voice

In no particular order:
1. Waterfront
2. Gone to Earth
3. The Librarian
4. Fire in the Forest
5. The Boy with the Gun

I don't have the vocabulary to express what these songs mean to me, suffice to say I love them.

I'm with heartofdavid, I can't really explain why I love these. It'd be an incredibly long explanation, I'm sure.

In no particular order:

1. Wave
2. The Ink in the Well
3. A Fire in the Forest
4. Ride
5. The Boy with the Gun

Okay, here we go (mind you, these are my current faves---subject to change anytime)

1 Silver Moon
2 Wanderlust
3 I surrender
4 God's Monkey
5 Orpheus

Silver Moon touches something inside of me and makes me want to tear up. #'s 2 and 3 when I first heard them (in my car by the way) I sat in my car in the parking lot of my apartment complex until they were over--I was mesmerized!!!! #4 is just wicked cool and Orpheus has a way of reminding me of when I was younger and my oldest brother was in college and he listened to alot of Gordon Lightfoot at the time---this song reminds me of Gordon a bit, but just a bit!!!

Hmmmm, maybe it's an English thing here, but what you are all listing are just favourite tracks. In the UK, we refer to singles as, erm, singles. You know, those things you can buy seperately.

So IMHO, the contenders for this thread would be Red Guitar, Nostalgia, Silver Moon, Taking The Veil etc etc

Just my 2p

I'm going to cheat and list a 6th! "Wasn't I Joe?", the unreleased track he performed on the blemish tour; that is a very intense and bitterly sad song.

Most (if not all) of the blemish concerts are available on the brokensky website; check out the song if you haven't heard it.

Indeed, a difficult task.

I will stick to officially released songs, interpret "solo" as "post-Japan", and list the following - in no special order, except for being the order in which I thought of them (and doing so strictly off the top of my head):

1. Damage
2. I surrender
3. Laughter and forgetting/Before the bullfight
4. Jean the birdman
5. The ink in the well

i sort of meant non collaborative work, but i suppose with david that is hard to find. He collaborates so wonderfully with so many different artists.

Man, this is hard, but these are my current top choices...

1. I Surrender - such a beautiful melody, and David sings it so well
2. River Man - This song never fails to give me chills. Such a great song.
3. Wanderlust - I've just been recently discovering this track. I think it's criminally underrated(out of all the songs on Dead Bees On A Cake), and the middle section is incredible.
4. Backwaters - This has always been one of my fav David solo songs, ever since I first heard "Brilliant Trees"
5. Brightness Falls - Undoubtably one of the greatest rock songs ever written.
