David Sylvian - Manafon

From Brilliant Trees through Died In The Wool...

There are some interesting comments on twitter from those who have heard the album. I hope the posters don't mind me repeating their comments here. Anil Prasad from the Innerviews says: 'Taking in David Sylvian's Manafon now. Wow. Heavy stuff. More thoughts soon-ish.' And then 'David Sylvian's new album progresses from Blemish. Very interesting, intriguing, imaginative, inspiring, anything with an "i" stuff.'

Another says: 'New David Sylvian - Manafon, 9/15. 1st impression: next step after Derek Bailey & Fennesz cuts on Blemish'.

Sounds very promising to me - looking forward to this very much.

i think its better when i dont post anymore

Neo, no one thinks you are stupid and no one has a problem with your level of English. But sometimes you post things I (and I think others) find inappropriate. I would say that intimating the site owner here 'hates' you wasn't perhaps the best move...

Simonp wrote:"On one listen I found "Manafon" totally embarrassing, but my similar reaction to Scott Walker's "The Drift" suggests I've grown out of a tolerance for this sort of stuff.

For all the interesting people on "Manafon", they're working very minimally, and a very long way down the mix behind Sylvian, who just sounds excruciatingly laboured to me
"

oh dear...this doesn't bode well. The comment about his vocals is also concerning me.I've felt that about him for some time now.

Oh Boy Did I hate that Walker's record. That's not good news, I was hoping for something in the likes of World Citizen or The World is everything sampler.
As a musician, The Drift or Blemish have always striked me as poet's records not musician's. A bit like the latest Iggy Pop rambling. I leave 'a fire in the forest' out of the lot, that song saved the record, that was the incentive to go through the previous songs...
Whatever the experimentation, music needs passion and some drama, it cannot be just sound processing, pings and pangs.
But I haven't heard Manafon yet, so I'll make my own judgement about this record later on.

I can only speak for myself, of course. But I repeat; no one has a problem with anyone for whom English is not a first language. I'm a linguist myself.

I find it a little odd that people would want to find David's daughters on the Internet; they're only young and I'm sure would want to lead their lives their own way rather than being labelled as 'David Sylvian's daughters' and get attention they don't want.

I think people may get cross with the repeated requests for things to be scanned when, as far as I know, you (Neo) live in Germany which doesn't strike me as a place where it would be hard to source magazines.

And for my part I never found David sexy at all - again I don't think it's that in itself that causes a problem, but maybe some of your more explicit posts? I won't repeat them again here but I'm sure you know which ones I mean.

Is this making sense so far?

I look like a doll also. One of those dolls you practice mouth to mouth resus on. I never sexualise Davis Slyvian too. His mouth is like putty and his legs move independant of his mind. With great loving I am fond of the Karn, but he too has eyebrows that scare animals from food. Porcupine Trees are for porcupines! Releese them! Nothing gives us joy but the one with the musics. Manafon is without Davis is music without. Understand this!

Many others' partners may notice signs of this cropping up over the next month or so...

Strangely enough, all that sounds very very very familiar.
