I know we're all Japan and Sylvian obsessors, but...

Forgot to comment on 'Take That' - mmmmm, boy bands. Never trust 5 boys who can't play instruments so all sing. Actually, they were Ok and my colleague sitting next to me absolutely loved them (and went to the reunion tour last month) so i'd better go easy on them.

David

PS - Can I borrow 'Spice Girls The Movie'.....

I was the only kid with dark hair so I believe I was delegated Posh Spice by default. 8) I think I liked Sporty Spice, too, though.

I remember when that movie came out. I never owned it but my best friend did and owning Spice World was a ticket to instant popularity, ha ha!

...and at one point I owned CDs by Backstreet Boys and N'Sync. BRIEFLY! I swear.

I listen to so many different artists, but my absolute fav band(right up there with Japan) is King Crimson. I love all of the solo projects that the band members have done, especially Robert Fripp, John Wetton, and Adrian Belew. 8)

Other than that, here are some of my other fav artists and bands: Prince, David Bowie, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, The Beatles, Porcupine Tree, Yes, Rush, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Radiohead, Keane, Coldplay, U2, REM, Michael Jackson, Modern English, The Cars, George Michael, The Police, Genesis, Spock's Beard, Glass Hammer, Pink Floyd, Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, Paul Simon, Led Zeppelin, Queen, the list goes on...

@ ProgRocker - from the list of artists you like, many of which I do too, I'd like to recommend Riverside. They're a Polish art/prog band. There's been some commentary that they are along the lines of Porcupine Tree, Opeth, Anathema and Pink Floyd, and while I can hear the similarities, I think they have their own sound. I recently got their "Out of Myself" cd and think it's very good. I like the vocalist a lot, can go from the sweet and smooth sound to very rough. The keyboard work is more 70s/80s to my ears than say Porcupine Tree, but I think it works.

I'm gonna second the Riverside recommendation and also throw in a Pure Reason Revolution - really groovy, progressive, layered vocals, great stuff and also a dredg if you're going in an Anathema vein.
Trust the proggrl.

Great list, ProgRocker, and I do have to hear some more of King Crimson---my curiosity is up!!!!!

Also thanks to everyone else for the recommendations---I think we should all feel free to suggest any interesting listens that we happen upon. It is almost to me like turning down different roads in my travels of music to find something new and refreshing, or to discover a new genre or style. A vast world of sound out there just waiting to be discovered!!!!

Also, I must confess i like ABBA, and the only great Barry Manilow song is "Could It Be Magic"---that is as far as I take that one!!!!!

Oh, and the Bee Gees are great too!!!!

Hey there's nothing wrong with liking the Big-Nosed One, at least my best mate thinks so...*snigger*

I think the basslines were a big part of the Level 42 appeal (she says, trying to sound convincingly intelligent).

And mine.

and I was fortunate enough to go to their last ever concert. I think it was at the Hammersmith Palais. They did 6 enchores and I managed to lose my house key when I was in the mosh pit (or whatever it was called in those days) My family were abroad at the time and I had to climb in the upstairs bedroom window when I got home to break back in the house. It was a small window and at one point I got stuck. Just think, if I hadn't managed to free myself I mightn't have been here to tell this tale as it was at the back of the house so nobody would have spotted my a*se sticking out of that top window for days!!!

Great story Jenny...hilarious. :D

jenny taylia wrote:Here's a bit of a confession. I also saw Japan's last tour at the Hammersmith Odeon at about the same time but I have to say that the Bauhaus concert and NOT the Japan concert was the best EVER concert I ever went to. I expect the abuse from everyone on here to start immediately.

Outrageous! Jenny you are barred from this forum and you must go and wash out your mouth immediately with strong bleach and say ten hail marys.
