Recommend me something in the vein of Sylvian

Postby qdes on Tue Dec 06, 2011 7:43 am

I need a favour.

I've got a need to find new evocative and moving music. It has always been a challenge for me since I don't actually care what music sounds like. I care what it feels in me and what it rises in my subconsience. And that's why Last.fm similar artists or "oh you like Sylvian, then you must like..." almost always seems to fail.

So, I'm looking for something deeply personal, powerful, modest, beautiful, romantic, introspective vocal music. Genre can be anything, basically I'm looking for a person who I have something in common with.

Some (well, all of them) vocalist I've found to be something I relate to:
Krister Linder (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nu4i8TTVyGw for example)
Thomas Feiner (well, you must know him)
Darren Hayes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJMNWTioW34 for example. Also his less poppier stuff)
Perry Blake (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byhco0aa ... re=related for example)
Saul Williams (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HerpGwbLSM8 for example)
Leonard Cohen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0j14GrB-u8 especially newer stuff)
Brett Anderson (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uq9KMZI7Ijc especially Wilderness)
Rob Dougan (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPKd__Tfb90 for example)
Sidsel Endresen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mT6z0k9UmI especially Undertow)

And with Sylvian, I especially enjoy what he's done in this century.

So... any suggestions. I'm open for anything.

You could try Melody Gardots cd "my one and only thrill", personally i love it. I should have said it's not really in the vein of sylvian in the way that she sounds but the album does produce that wonderful feeling of immense beauty which i get from some of sylvians material.

Interesting, This seems to be so personal.
I can't find anything in common with Sylvian in the ones you mention qdes.
what so ever... maybe a tiny tiny bit in Feiner, but that's because we all know that Sylvian likes it.
Here are three I find close to MY David Sylvian...
but yes, I understand if I'm the only one who feel any similarities at all...

Daryl Hall - The Farther Away I Am

David Bowie - The Drowned Girl

I don't know nothing about this person, but it's been love at first hearing, and I've been playing these three tracks all afternoon. It has sure enough been evocative and moving for me.
Hope you find it interesting. :D

I heard this on the radio on the way home tonight and was quite taken with it, It was a very good show, they also played ghosts which sounded superb! I don't know anything about the band but i hope you enjoy. Does the drumming remind you of anyone?
