Chris Cornell's new album Carry On. It's pretty good. Pretty mellow compared to Soundgarden and AudioSlave

Gackt is a Japanese rock star, was formerly with the band Malice Mizer. Theatrical/progressive/goth style is what I'd call it - a little of each. He's one of my favorites. :-)

Sylvan - good band, I've only heard some of Artificial Paradise.

HeartOfDavid, you seem to have vast knowledge of music. I listen to all different genres of music...the actual song, Shima Uta, has a deep meaning to me so I listen to it once in a while, but Gackt is new to me.

Anyway, back to the topic:

No, I'm just old and have heard a lot, lol. But I got into Gackt back in 2003 - a friend recommended his Rebirth CD and I fell in love with the song Secret Garden. My favorite CD by him is Crescent. Worked my way backward into the Malice Mizer stuff.

There are a few J-rock artists I like, not all that many. I don't know much about J-pop (typically the type of stuff you hear in anime); I think most of it sounds the same.

To topic:

Goddess (of the sad man) - Amorphis

Even still, your taste is as good as it is varied. I too have been quite impressed with your knowledge and range of artists you mention.
